Why Fortified?
Meet Maddy Barbarich
BHSc (Physiotherapy), Postgraduate BSc First Class Hons. (Exercise Science), BSc (Exercise Science), Dry Needling, CrossFit Level 1, Richie Patterson Weightlifting Level 2, NZ Certificate in Exercise Level 3 & 4.
Founder, Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist
Maddy graduated from Exercise Science in 2012 and continued to work in research at the University of Auckland for several years. However, it always felt like something was missing. After a change to personal training and CrossFit coaching, she realised the missing ingredient was you! Thriving in a space where she could put theory into practice, Maddy retrained (and graduated top of her class) in Physiotherapy.
You can expect to leave a session with Maddy confident in what your injury is and what needs to happen going forward. Her passion for learning translates to education you will understand.
Fortified was born out of the desire to offer more than standard physiotherapy care. Combining her years of experience in how the body works and moves, Maddy believes your treatment plan should be so much more than just your weekly appointment. This looks like a patient-centered approach, getting to know what is meaningful to you and empowering you to be an active participant in your structured rehab journey. Training and rehab should be the same thing, and Maddy will guide you along this continuum to reach your peak performance.
Outside the clinic (quite literally), you will find Maddy on the gym floor, either working out or having a chat with someone when she was supposed to have left 10 minutes ago! She is also enjoying everything that comes with being a new mum and getting outside for a round of golf or walks with border collie, Riley.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Also called physical therapy, physio is about helping to relieve your pain, restore movement, and maximise your function.
We focus on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Treatment is non-invasive including modalities such as massage, acupuncture, joint mobilisations and exercise.
-
Exercise Physiology focuses on how the body responds and adapts to physical activity. This not only includes the muscular system but the cardiorespiratory and metabolic components as well.
Knowledge of these systems allows us to design training programmes that improve your health, functional capacity and performance.
-
Not at all! We are a primary care provider and can submit a claim to ACC if applicable. We can also refer on to other specialties if required.
-
ACC subsidises some of the cost of physiotherapy if you are injured as a result of an accident. This includes a range of things such as accidents at home, work, traffic accidents, sporting injuries, etc. You must be able to explain exactly what happened and the date of injury.
Even if you are a visitor to NZ, if the accident occurred in NZ, then you are covered.
Things that are not covered are illness, conditions relating to aging, or injuries that slowly occur over time.
